Cotati Accordion Festival
Today was my first ever appearance at the Cotati Accordion Festival! I had never even attended the event as a spectator. It was a real treat to witness such a large audience appreciate our beloved instrument. When I arrived, I followed the instructions I had been given on where to park. I was surprised when they led me directly to a nice woman who directed me just a few feet away to a parking spot right behind the stage! It was so nice not to have to lug my accordion and merch suitcase across a big parking lot or street. As soon as I left my car, the excitement of music and accordion lovers began to buzz in my ears. I could see people smiling and bobbing up and down as The Mad Maggies did their thing on the stage. As I walked through the crowd, people smiled and nodded to me in recognition. I never anticipate anyone knowing who I am. Right away, I spotted a burst of pink hair and saw that it was Renee De La Prade! She is so sweet and a great player. Renee was "womaning" the Accordion Babes Pin Up Calendar booth, and promptly handed me a complimentary copy! She had invited me to be part of the calendar, but I don't really like to be sexy like a pin up. Her band was up next, so she went to prepare. I had not realized that she was playing at the festival, and when I saw that I was playing after her, and before "Those Darn Accordions" I was very pleased. What was really cool, was the fact that so many people were there to enjoy the accordion, and that I got the opportunity to contribute to their experience. Thanks to everyone who listened today and bought a cd! Hope to see you tomorrow at the festival and at the Black Cat in Penngrove next friday August 28th! Gabby La La

Beach Bum
I slept nicely last night and when I looked off of the top deck of Nana's house, I could see the ocean through the waving palms. After a couple of strawberries, I grabbed my book, sunglasses and camera and headed off to the beach. Walking through the little vacation town of Playa Del Mar, I was reminded of the time Mikey and I spent in Virginia Beach a couple of years ago. I always love how these beaches have a paved path for bikes and runners which winds along the edge of the sand. This particular beach path was sandwiched between two healthy chunks of sand. On one side you could see the crashing waves, and people body surfing, and on the other side stood a handsome row of oceanfront homes. I can see why Nana lives here. When I set off on my little excursion, I couldn't remember if Nana had told me that the beach was further or closer than it seemed. I stopped at a corner coffee shop and got an iced green tea. There was a group of firemen in full gear enjoying a break outside, and I could see their truck as I walked in. It reminded me how short I am (compared to some.) With drink in hand, I proceeded to follow a group of youngsters who appeared to have the same destination as me. I didn't want to end up wandering around looking for a beach outlet forever. Luckily, they led me directly to the sand, where I walked for a bit and soon settled on a spot near the water's edge. Since I had no blanket, I just rested my head on my purse. Staring up into the blue sky, and listening to the waves crash, I finally started to relax, and just exist in the moment. Gabby La La

A Successful Show!
Last night, Gabby La La was joined at Aqus Cafe by The Ukulady, Noise Boys, and Astrid Strudelman! A fantastic crowd assembled at the neighborhood "Hangout" to witness a whole lot of strumming, plucking, tapping and vocalizing. It was wonderful to see such a mix of ages and styles enjoying a good time together:) La La was accompanied by Josh Fossgreen on Bass and Jay Lane on Drums! Kit'N'Tenders made a special appearance and were very well received:) The Noise Boys were smooth and groovy as usual and they debuted their newest member, and lady Saxaphonist who I understand met them in church! Many parentals and siblings were in attendance and that made everyone very happy. Even Blythe was there with her two new troll friends! The big, pink haired troll forgot to wear clothes so we had to make him a toga out of a napkin:) He's lucky to have friends who care. Gabby La La
